{"id":9658,"date":"2020-10-23T11:10:46","date_gmt":"2020-10-23T02:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.econ.keio.ac.jp\/?page_id=9658"},"modified":"2025-10-23T11:26:23","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T02:26:23","slug":"project-application","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.econ.keio.ac.jp\/en\/undergraduate\/research-project\/project-application","title":{"rendered":"Applications for Independent Research Project (IRP) for the 2025-26 Academic Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"mgt\">Application process<\/h2>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt5\">IRP applications for the 2025-26 academic year will take the following process.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"mgt\">Step 1: Contact your preferred supervisor<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt5\">Students are encouraged to contact their preferred supervisors before the application period, ideally, <span class=\"ita\">before the start of Summer Break,<\/span> to consult their research themes and plans. It is important to do so because \u2026<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"mgt style2\">\r\n\t<li>That professor may not be available next year due to, for example, sabbatical. \r\n\t<li>The student\u2019s research theme may be deviating from the preferred supervisor\u2019s research area and needs an amendment.\r\n\t<li>An IRP is a significant commitment for professors as well. IRP supervisors dedicate extra time and effort to supervise individual students. Therefore, most professors prefer to have prior knowledge of applicants to assess their commitment to working on a year-long project.\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt\">Students must choose their supervisors among the <span class=\"ita\">full-time faculty<\/span> members of the Faculty of Economics of Keio University.<br>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"mgt style4\">\r\n\t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.econ.keio.ac.jp\/en\/about\/faculty-list\">List of faculty members<\/a><\/p>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt\">Students are encouraged to fill out the following form<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"mgt style4\">\r\n\t<li class=\"word\"><a class=\"file\" href=\"https:\/\/www.econ.keio.ac.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IRP-Request-Form.docx\" target=\"_blank\">Request Form\uff08Word\uff09<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt\">before consulting their research themes and plans with their preferred supervisors.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"ita und\">&lt;When the preferred supervisor\u2019s contact information is available&gt;<\/h4>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt\">In this case, email your filled Request Form to the professor directly. When emailing, make sure to do the following:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"mgt style1\">\r\n\t<li>Fill out the subject line. For example, \u201cSupervision request for IRP.\u201d\r\n\t<li>State that you are a PEARL student (It is important for professors to know that it will be an IRP for PEARL, not for Type A\/B students, because the academic calendars differ between the two types of students).\r\n\t<li>Use your keio.jp email address.\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"ita und\">&lt;When the preferred supervisor\u2019s contact information is not available&gt;<\/h4>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt\">In this case, email your filled Request Form to kpro-group@keio.jp. The IRP coordinators will forward the form to the supervisor. When emailing, make sure to do the following:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"mgt style1\">\r\n\t<li>Fill out the subject line. For example, \u201cForward request of my Request Form.\u201d\r\n\t<li>State that you are a PEARL student.\r\n\t<li>Use your keio.jp email address.\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"mgt\">Step 2: Email your application form during the submission period<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt\">Applicants complete the following Application Form:<\/p>\r\n<ul class=\"mgt5 style4\">\r\n\t<li class=\"word\"><a class=\"file\" href=\"https:\/\/www.econ.keio.ac.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IRP-Application-Form-1.doc\" target=\"_blank\">Application Form\uff08Word\uff09<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt\">Applicants must ask their preferred supervisors to fill in the \u201cEvaluation by Supervisor\u201d section on the last page of the Application Form before submitting the form. The \u201cProfessor\u2019s Signature or Stamp\u201d may be an e-signature (it can be omitted). When emailing, make sure to do the following:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"mgt style2\">\r\n\t<li>Fill out the subject line. For example, \u201cIRP Application: Your student ID \/ Your name.\u201d\r\n\t<li>Use your keio.jp address.\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt\"><span class=\"und\">Submit to<\/span>:mita-kei@adst.keio.ac.jp<br>\r\n<span class=\"und\">Submission period<\/span>: 9:00 on Friday, 19 September, to 16:00 on Tuesday, 23 September, 2025<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"mgt\">Step 3: Acceptance decision will be made<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt\">Each Application Form will be evaluated by IRP Coordinators and the designated supervisor. Acceptance decisions will be notified via email to individual students. Upon acceptance, students must attend a guidance session that will be held online in the first week of the Fall semester. The date and time will be announced to admitted students.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h1 id=\"contacts\">Contact &#038; Inquiry<\/h1>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"mgt\">Questions can be sent to kpro-group@keio.jp.
