Double MA Programme between Keio University and Brandeis University

About the Programme

The Graduate School of Economics and Brandeis University have a double master’s degree programme in Economics, which allows qualified students to acquire two master’s degrees in economics. Participants in this programme are expected to acquire not only expertise in economics but also a global perspective and experience. They have a wide range of career options upon completion of the double master’s degree programme.

Brandeis University is an American private research university located in Waltham, Massachusetts. It is well known as a prominent institution of higher education and has produced many quality graduates. The participants of this BA/MA programme will study at the Brandeis International Business School and seek a Master’s degree in International Economics and Finance (MAief). MAief at Brandeis enjoys an excellent reputation among pre-experience programs in the world, with particular strengths in international finance, economics and business.

Participation Eligibility

Applicants must satisfy the following requirements at the time they apply to this Programme:

  1. a TOEFL iBT score of 100 or more or an IELTS score of 7.0 or more;
  2. demonstrate an excellent academic performance; and
  3. satisfy the following course requirements:
    1. Course Credit Transfer:
      This course credit transfer involves Keio students transferring a total of the equivalent of 16 Keio credits. The following undergraduate courses can be used to satisfy the Course Credit Transfer Requirement:
      • Intermediate Microeconomics (four credits)
      • Intermediate Macroeconomics (four credits)
      • Econometrics (four credits)
      • Electives (four credits), approved by Brandeis IBS

      The combination of Statistics II and Introduction to Econometrics that are offered by the Faculty of Economics at Keio can be used to meet the Econometrics requirement.

    2. Graduate Courses:
      have earned or expected to earn credits for at least three courses (6 credits) taught in English during their second semester at the Graduate School of Keio before their departure to the United States.

Notes:

  1. Applicants for this Double Master’s Degree Programme cannot apply for the CEMS programme at the same time. In addition, application eligibility and necessary documents for these two programmes are different. Please read the application information carefully before applying.
  2. Notes on application to Brandeis University

    1. Students from Keio will pay their tuition fees to Brandeis. They will be given a 25% discount on the annual tuition fee.
    2. Students who are accepted into this double degree programme are also eligible to apply for the “Toshizo Watanabe International Scholarship Program(TWISP)” which includes full tuition scholarships and partial stipends for living expenses.
    3. Applicants are required to submit at least one recommendation letter from a faculty member.
    4. Applicants are advised to submit their results on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) if they wish to be considered for financial aid in addition to the tuition subsidy granted for participants in this programme(see above).
    5. Applicants are required to submit at least one recommendation letter from a faculty member.
    6. Those who will enroll in the Graduate School of Economics in September 2024 and wish to apply for this program should contact [econ_dd@info.keio.ac.jp] by Sunday, September 15, 2024 (JST).
