BA/MA Five Year Programme with Brandeis University
The Faculty of Economics has an agreement with Brandeis University for a combined BA/MA Five Year Programme. Students enrolled in the Faculty of Economics can apply. Students who satisfy the graduation requirements of both institutions will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from Keio and a Master’s degree in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis.
Programme Outline
The maximum number of participants is six per year. The study plans for students who participate in this Programme are shown in the diagrams below.

- Type A/B students refers to students whose study at Keio begins in April and whose principal language of tuition is Japanese.
- PEARL students may choose from one of two options, a or b, in the above diagram.
Notes on Pattern a: Students must satisfy all the requirements for their graduation from Keio by the end of their seventh semester if they wish to graduate from Keio in September of that year (marked (2) above). They will be exempted from paying tuition fees for their eighth semester at Keio, provided that they do not earn any Keio credits in that semester.

Brandeis University is an American private research university located in Waltham, Massachusetts. It is well known as a prominent institution of higher education and has produced many quality graduates. The participants of this BA/MA programme will study at the Brandeis International Business School and seek a Master’s degree in International Economics and Finance (MAief). MAief at Brandeis enjoys an excellent reputation among pre-experience programs in the world, with particular strengths in international finance, economics and business.
Eligibility and Application Guideline

Applicants must satisfy the following requirements at the time they apply to this Programme:
- be a Keio student enrolled in the Faculty of Economics and have successfully completed at least the first six semesters in the case of PEARL students, and at least the first seven semesters in the case of Type A/B students;
- a TOEFL iBT score of 100 or more or an IELTS score of 7.0 or more;
- demonstrate an excellent academic performance; and
- satisfy the following course requirements:
- have earned or expected to earn credits for eight Keio courses (a total of 16 Keio credits) transferrable to Brandeis, including Intermediate Microeconomics (4 credits), courses in econometrics* (4 credits), and four additional courses (8 credits) in major subjects in the area of economics or business as approved by Brandeis; and
- be enrolled in and expected to earn credits for at least three courses (6 credits) taught in English during their last semester at Keio before their departure to the United States.

Screening
Applicants will be evaluated by their application documents and an interview.
Selection Schedule
Students enrolled in their fourth year are considered for selection into this programme.
Applicants pre-selected by Keio can proceed to the final selection by applying to Brandeis University.

Notes on application to Brandeis University
- Applicants are required to submit at least one recommendation letter from a faculty member.
- Applicants are advised to submit their results on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) if they wish to be considered for financial aid in addition to the tuition subsidy granted for participants in this programme (see below)
Programme Fee
Tuition:
Students from Keio will pay their tuition fees to Brandeis. They will be given a 25% discount on the annual tuition fee of approx. US$51,000 (=2017/18).
*Students who are accepted into this double degree programme are also eligible to apply for the “Toshizo Watanabe International Scholarship Program(TWISP)” which includes full tuition scholarships and partial stipends for living expenses.
Medical Insurance:
Students are responsible for purchasing a health insurance policy such as those for long-term study abroad.
